Will it help or hurt? Thoughts on autonomous vehicles in 2019.
What does this mean for consumer and industrial vehicles?
Just thirty years ago most modern manufacturers were transitioning from "archaic" carburetors to fuel injection. Now it's 2019 and it we are standing on automotive forefronts that were unthinkable just a few short years ago. I am referring to autonomous technology that could be coming soon to a vehicle near you and in some cases is already there and partially active.
We already have vehicles on the road today that have autopilot functions. " Teslacomes to mind, Tesla states :Current Autopilot features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous." Notice the use of the word "Current" one can only assume there are plans in the works for a full functioning autonomous update somewhere in the not so distant future.
Autonomy in a vehicular sense isn't all that popular with Americans just yet. There are several surveys out there that cite just 15-20% of Americans can see themselves giving up control of their vehicle to a computer counterpart. Esurance states that far more parents with kids under 19 make up a large percentage of those in favor of autonomous vehicles. At one point in my life I was a sixteen year old who just received his license so I can relate and also relay their fears.
I believe that we will continue to see this technology grow, develop and fine tune itself as we progress into the future. There has been some hiccups along the way as to be expected with any new tech in this day and age. I personally feel that if we can get this tech to work it would have many benefits for society! Drop me a comment and let me know what you think! I'm interested in hearing what you think on their use for industrial vehicles as well!
