Where is the World's largest collection of garbage
I'll give you one hint...Not on land.
In this day and age we have more garbage than ever. It's inevitable as the Earth's ever increasing human populous will only continue to grow and with that growth waste will only exponentially increase.
One of the largest land based landfills is Apex Regional located in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. This landfill spans 2200 acres and receives on average 9-12,000 tons of waste daily! Unfortunately the largest collection of garbage I am talking about makes this seem paltry in comparison!
The Pacific Garbage Patch otherwise known as Pacific Trash Vortex
Have you heard of the Pacific Garbage Patch? As the name and my article implies it is basically a very large patch of floating plastic waste in the pacific ocean. There are many guesstimates to the actual size of the patch but some researchers estimate it at twice the size of Texas! This only accounts for the waste that is buoyant enough to float, one can only imagine what is hiding beneath the surface.
Let's discuss size and weight. Researches estimate that there is 80,000 metric tons (176,369,824pounds) of waste just floating around out there. This plastic supposedly spans 1.6 million square kilometers! to put this into perspective 50 plastic bottles weigh roughly one pound!
There have been several discussions on how to clean this up, Do you have any ideas?
